U21 striker Nicolo Tresoldi finds Ronaldo's room at monastery gate
U21 striker Nicolo Tresoldi, 22, is on a record chase and, before the decisive Euro qualifying match in Bielefeld, discovered an unusual room: above the door is the sign “Ronaldos room”, a reference to the former stay of Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the most successful goal‑scorers in history, at the Hotel Klosterpforte.
Ronaldo room at Hotel Klosterpforte
The stylish Hotel Klosterpforte is located in Marienburg near Harsewinkel in the East Westphalian region. Tresoldi was given the room in which Cristiano Ronaldo once stayed, and said he had “a bit of luck” with the room allocation. “It was a coincidence. I just got my key card, went in and suddenly there was ‘Ronaldos room’ above the door,” he said in the ran interview. In the case of the room that once belonged to Ronaldo, he felt especially motivated.
The Euro qualifying match against Georgia takes place on Tuesday at 18:00 at the Bielefeld stadium and will be broadcast on ProSieben Maxx. Tresoldi emphasized that the room is an extra boost of motivation for him, even though he is himself a big Messi fan. He hopes to use the match to get closer to his record goal.
Record chase and senior national team decision
With sixteen goals, Tresoldi leads the German U21 team and can therefore challenge Pierre Littbarski’s record (eighteen goals). The U21 European Championship takes place from June 16 to July 3 in Albania and Serbia. After the tournament he wants to decide whether he will play for Germany or his birth country Italy, as he stressed on Monday.
Tresoldi chases U21 scoring record as fans turn hostile
There has been no contact with national team coach Jürgen Klopp so far, and Tresoldi described his heart as “fifty‑fifty”. Selection coach Antonio Di Salvo explained that they are letting him “stay as calm as possible for now”, so as not to disturb his focus.
After he took over the captain’s armband in the absence of goalkeeper Tom Bischof, that was enough of a signal that Di Salvo wants to see him back in the senior squad at some point. The coach emphasized that a classic target man like Tresoldi is good enough for the senior national team.
U21 defender Joshua Quarshie describes Tresoldi as a “very laid‑back guy who loves football and will always stay the way he is”. In his view, the team benefits greatly from his attitude.
In the upcoming match against Georgia, Tresoldi has the chance to lead the team to a Euro ticket while also furthering his personal record chase.
