U21 Germany go wild in Malta thanks to Tresoldi's hat-trick
While the German U21 team in Attard initially fell behind, they turned the game around completely thanks to captain Nicolò Tresoldi, who scored a hat‑trick. The team of coach Antonio di Salvo won on Wednesday evening 4‑1 (2‑1) and moved closer to the Euro ticket.
Early deficit and quick equaliser
Guests Malta took the lead unexpectedly when Basil Tuma struck on the counter in the ninth minute. Shortly after, Union Berlin striker Tom Rothe equalised with a header to make it 2‑1, before the Germans took command.
Tresoldi's scoring record
Captain and goal‑scorer Nicolò Tresoldi (Club Brugge) scored his hat‑trick in the 11th, 47th and 69th minutes. With 14, 15 and 16 goals in the 26th U21 match he climbed into the all‑time top list, sitting only behind Heiko Herrlich (17) and Pierre Littbarski (18).

Further goals and match flow
After the first deficit Leandro Morgalla hit the post, Tresoldi converted the rebound. In the second half he added his second header goal from a corner and finished the evening’s most beautiful goal with a direct free‑kick from 17 metres.
The fourth German goal came from Tom Rothe, who headed the ball after a mis‑pass from Noahkai Banks.
Outlook on the qualification
The final qualifying match against Georgia takes place next Tuesday at 18:00 in Bielefeld. Another win secures the group victory for Germany and participation in Euro 2027 in Serbia and Albania. Should Greece unexpectedly lose to Latvia on Thursday, qualification would already be secured before the final matchday.
