Two Italian suitors emerge as OM eyes exit for Canadian defender
Olympique de Marseille (OM) remain in the midst of a sweeping squad trim and could offload Canadian defender Derek Cornelius before the transfer window closes, as two Serie A clubs have already shown interest. Both clubs are monitoring his situation closely, though no formal talks have begun.

According to the latest report, OM could also part with Derek Cornelius, a 28‑year‑old recruited in 2024. Transfermarkt values the Canadian at €5 million, a figure that adds weight to the potential move.
Italian clubs eye Cornelius
Selon Foot Mercato, Sassuolo and Lecce are the two Italian sides currently tracking the defender, though negotiations have not yet advanced. The player was previously linked with Genoa in July and Cremonese in January, underscoring his continued appeal in Serie A.
Sassuolo appreciates Cornelius’s profile but has placed Daniele Rugani at the top of its priority list, leaving the Canadian as a fallback option. The club’s interest remains the hottest lead, with the possibility of a loan that includes a purchase clause.
Lecce could accelerate its pursuit if Tiago Gabriel departs, positioning Cornelius as a viable replacement. The southern side also favours a loan with an option to buy, mirroring Sassuolo’s preferred structure.
