Tuchel reveals regretful memory after Mexico win

In a new documentary by the English Football Association, the 53‑year‑old Thomas Tuchel makes an unexpected revelation. He looks back with some regret on England’s 3‑2 victory over Mexico at the Azteca Stadium, and explains why he did not eat grass after the match to preserve the moment.

The Three Lions eliminated Mexico in the round of 16, clearing the way for the next stage of the tournament. The match ended with a 3‑2 score in England’s favour.

‘After the match I sent a friend a message’, Tuchel begins. ‘I regret that I did not eat grass after the match, to keep something of this moment forever in my body’, he explains.

Red Card and Injury

Shortly after halftime Jarell Quansah received a red card, leaving England to play temporarily with ten men. The incident underscored the physical intensity of the match.

England trail Spain but share second‑place odds with France and Germany in Nations League

During the celebrations Jordan Henderson fell over the advertising boards and broke his arm. The former Ajax player had to leave the field, a painful moment for the team.

Tuchel describes how the players immediately stopped celebrating, formed a shield and protected Jordan. ‘Within a second all the players were there, full of empathy’, he says, emphasizing the unity of the team.

England eventually finished third at the World Cup, and the English Football Association continues to rely on Tuchel. In the upcoming international break the Three Lions will face world champions Spain, twice against the Czech Republic and against Croatia.
