Tresoldi Italy: undecided 50‑50, reactions of Mancini and Klopp

The Italo‑German midfielder Nicolò Tresoldi, born in Cagliari and class of 2004, plays for Bruges and has yet to choose the senior national team. “Italy or Germany? I’m thinking about it and I’m 50‑50, both nations mean a lot to me,” he said, confirming that the decision has been postponed by a year to complete the cycle with the German Under‑21s up to the final stage of the European Championship.

Klopp’s words

Germany’s coach, Julian Klopp, commented on the situation, emphasizing that the lack of a choice does not imply a refusal. “The fact that there is none does not mean he has decided not to represent Germany – he clarified – or that he does not want to represent Italy. We do not want to put any pressure on the boys,” he added.

Tresoldi described Klopp as “more of a father figure than a head coach, very understanding”. “We had great conversations, I explained my situation to him. He is a fantastic person, he just wanted to help me decide and he left me at peace. For me the door will always be open,” he said.

Mancini watches Tresoldi: the choice between Italy and Germany postponed

Even Roberto Mancini, Italy’s head coach, had a similar talk. “With him we had similar discussions. It is normal that there is interest also from Italy. I told Mancini that I would be happy if I played for Italy. It was a nice conversation,” Tresoldi reiterated.

With the aim of reaching the final stage of the Under‑21 European Championship, Tresoldi has postponed the final decision on the senior national team, keeping the door open for both federations.
