Traore says Viktor Gyokeres lacks killer instinct as Arsenal stall
Armand Traore boasts he would not fear defending against Viktor Gyokeres, while the Swedish striker faces doubts about his impact and a murky future at the Emirates Stadium.
Traore's blunt assessment
Traore told the Sun that he “doesn’t get that killer instinct” from Gyokeres, recalling his own battles with Didier Drogba and the aura the Ivorian exuded. He added that Gyokeres “doesn’t have the leader‑type presence” he expects from top forwards.
The former Arsenal left‑back said, “If I was to play against Gyokeres I wouldn’t be worried. I was a very, very fast player. He could push it past me but there is no way he is getting past.” He contrasted the Swede with Thierry Henry, calling the difference “day and night” and insisting that “speed kills” and Gyokeres is not very quick.
Gyokeres scored 21 goals in all competitions last season, a tally that helped the Gunners clinch the Premier League title and reach the Champions League final. His contribution was vital, yet the Sweden international has not won everyone over during his time at the Emirates Stadium.

Before joining Arsenal, Gyokeres was an “absolute goal machine” at Sporting Lisbon, where his prolific scoring attracted attention from the Premier League. Some observers now suggest the step up may be too great for him, noting occasional signs that the league’s intensity is a challenge.
Uncertainty and suitors
Critics argue Gyokeres lacks the aura of past great strikers and question his quickness, leaving his role at Arsenal uncertain. At 28, he has already slipped down the pecking order this season.
Reports indicate he has suitors from Serie A and the Saudi Pro League as he considers his options after falling out of favour. Despite this, manager Mikel Arteta appears to favour Kai Havertz as his primary striker, though a lack of depth means Gyokeres could still receive opportunities.
