Transfer window pressure forces Chris Wilder to list three players
In the cramped office of Bramall Lane, Chris Wilder spreads a printed list across his desk, signalling that three Sheffield United players are now up for sale as the summer transfer window draws to a close. The decision comes amid a frantic push to reshape the squad and revive a campaign that ended disastrously last season. Wilder’s move underscores the club’s urgency to stay in the Championship play‑off conversation.
Sheffield United are navigating their first Championship window without parachute payments since January 2019, meaning they must be shrewd with limited resources. The Blades aim to climb back into the play‑off race after a season that saw them languish at the bottom of the Premier League before relegation. Financial restraint has forced the club to offload high earners and seek value in the market.

Earlier departures free up funds
Gustavo Hamer, in the final year of his contract, left for Coventry City for a reported £6 million fee, while academy graduate Andre Brooks transferred to Norwich City for £8 million. Those sales have helped the club raise fees and reduce the wage bill ahead of the new season. The cash influx is expected to support further activity in the final weeks of the window.
Three fringe players listed for sale
The three outcasts now on Wilder’s transfer list are Swedish centre‑back Nils Zatterstrom, veteran goalkeeper Ivo Grbic and Welsh full‑back Rhys Norrington‑Davies. Zatterstrom arrived from Malmö for a reported €3.3 million but has yet to make a senior appearance, featuring in only three Championship squads before a loan to Genoa where he was an unused substitute in 14 of 17 league games.
EFL side QPR risk FIFA sanction after forcing Kamara home early
"Nils is a young player, but he needs football," Wilder said in late June. "He has to go and play 23, 24, 25 games before Christmas. Then we can have a longer look at him instead of playing in our 21s." The Star Zatterstrom will be available for a loan move this summer.
Ivo Grbic, 30, has not featured for United in over two years, his last appearance coming in a 4‑2 EFL Cup win over Wrexham in August 2024. He made his final league start in April 2024 and previously conceded 30 goals in 10 games after joining the club in January 2024. Grbic spent the last two seasons on loan in Turkey, keeping 10 clean sheets in 54 matches across Rizespor and Karagümrük.
Rhys Norrington‑Davies spent the previous season on loan at QPR, starting 34 Championship games but was subbed at half‑time in the EFL Cup first‑round match and omitted from the league opener against Birmingham City. The nine‑year Blades veteran now faces a permanent exit if the right offer materialises.
With the club focused on the road back to the play‑offs, trimming the wage bill and freeing squad places are essential. The departures of Zatterstrom, Grbic and Norrington‑Davies could provide the financial breathing space United needs, and the management hopes the moves will benefit both the players and Us as the season unfolds.
