Transfer completed: Augsburg midfielder Jakic joins PAOK

While FC Augsburg celebrates from the top of the Bundesliga table, Kristijan Jakic's time at the German club comes to an end: The 29-year-old Croat is no longer in form, is missing from the squad and is close to a move to Greece.

Currently FC Augsburg greets from the top of the Bundesliga. For the first time since their promotion in 2011, the Fugger city leaders can call themselves front‑runners, after the 4‑1 away win against Eintracht Frankfurt and the success in the home arena against promoted Schalke 04.

His form has declined, and he was most recently not in the squad because he was released for contract talks with another club. In defensive midfield he falls behind the competition; Fabian Rieder and Han‑Noah Massengo are already regulars.

Loan to PAOK with purchase option

PAOK Thessaloniki has initially secured Jakic's right foot on loan; a loan fee of €500,000 is due and the Greeks hold a purchase option of €4 million. The medical check takes place on Tuesday, reports the club, and the completion should be announced soon.

The new club already knows Augsburg well: At PAOK, Jakic will meet his former teammate Dimitrios Giannoulis, who also moved there in the summer. In a speech, the PAOK manager emphasized that the Greeks are delighted with the reinforcement.

Jakic had previously held talks with 1. FC Union Berlin, but he now prefers Greece. The negotiations have been conducted for days by managing director Michael Ströll and sporting director Benjamin Weber.

Thus the euphoria at FCA remains undimmed, while Jakic continues his career in a new environment – a clear contrast between promotion success and personal fresh start.
