Trabzonspor's two‑year gamble on Salah arrives in Turkey tomorrow

Trabzonspor will seal a two‑year contract with former Liverpool striker Mo Salah, the Egyptian international, as he lands at Istanbul Atatürk Airport at 12:00 on Wednesday, August 5, before heading to Trabzon later that evening in Turkey, as scheduled, marking his arrival tomorrow.

Trabzonspor finished third last season, trailing Fenerbahçe and champions Galatasaray. The club hopes the high‑profile acquisition will accelerate that rise.

The Turkish side’s identity and its growing European profile make signing a player of Salah’s calibre a strategic priority. The move aligns with the club’s ambition to enhance its standing on the continent.

Besiktas were understood to be Salah’s first choice, but negotiations stalled last week. The breakdown opened the door for the Black Sea club, allowing Trabzonspor to step in.

The player is scheduled to arrive in Trabzon tomorrow, and the club promised to reveal the welcome programme later in the day. On Tuesday night the club posted a brief message to its 1.9 million followers on X, titled ‘Public Announcement: Negotiations have begun regarding the transfer of professional footballer Mohamed Salah to our Club.’

Salah is the third‑highest scorer in Liverpool history with 255 goals. He left the Merseyside club after a season in which his tally fell to 10, far below the 34 he netted during the 2024‑25 title win.

He fell out with manager Arne Slot last term, yet his professionalism has been praised throughout his career. His long‑serving agent Ramy Abbas repeatedly insisted that nothing was decided during the World Cup, a stance reaffirmed while Salah was in the US; since returning, talks have accelerated and the player WILL appear ready to commit this Year.

If confirmed, the transfer would be the most high‑profile signing in Trabzonspor’s history, joining fellow internationals such as goalkeeper Andre Onana and defender Stefan Savic. The Egyptian’s arrival is expected to boost the club’s commercial appeal and on‑field ambitions.

For Liverpool, Salah’s departure leaves a void after three PFA Players’ Player of the Year awards, and the club remains without a clear replacement as the new season approaches. For Salah, the move offers a fresh challenge in the Turkish Süper Lig and the chance to extend his high level deep into his thirties.
