Tottenham's wing hopes crumble as Mudryk faces two‑month lay‑off
Tottenham Hotspur’s on‑loan winger Mykhailo Mudryk is expected to miss up to two months after sustaining an ankle injury in training, just days after his first Premier League appearance in almost two years. The Ukraine international was brought in from Chelsea and featured as a 74th‑minute substitute in Saturday’s goalless draw at Nottingham Forest.

Why Spurs signed Mudryk
Tottenham secured Mudryk on a season‑long loan from Chelsea on deadline day, hoping his pace would bolster a depleted wing. The club had already released teenager Mikey Moore to Cologne and omitted Richarlison from the Premier League squad after the Brazilian requested a move in the summer. Mudryk’s arrival was therefore seen as a direct replacement for the departing forward. His debut also marked his first competitive football since returning from a doping ban imposed in November 2024.
Spurs’ options without Mudryk
Roberto De Zerbi admitted the setback will delay Mudryk’s integration, saying it will take time for the Ukraine international to get up to speed. With Mudryk unavailable, the manager’s likely starters against Everton include Dominic Solanke, Omar Marmoush, Mathys Tel, Savinho and Mohamed Kudus. De Zerbi also noted that Richarlison’s departure had forced a reshuffle of his attacking line‑up.
The Spurs’ injury list also features Xavi Simons and Wilson Odobert, both ruled out for the rest of the year with serious knee problems, while Dejan Kulusevski is edging close to a return after more than a year out. Sweden boss Graham Potter described Kulusevski as ‘very close’ to full fitness. James Maddison, meanwhile, suffered a shoulder knock after coming off the bench against Brentford.
Missing up to two months curtails Mudryk’s chance to prove himself in the Premier League and may hinder his post‑ban momentum. For Tottenham, the injury removes a key option on the flank just as the squad battles multiple absences. The club will now rely on the remaining forwards to maintain its push up the table.
