Tottenham’s urgent need for a winger fuels Savinho’s City exit push
Tottenham Hotspur, facing a crowded wide‑forward roster after the arrival of Enzo Maresca, have identified a clear gap for a dynamic winger. Brazilian international Savinho, 22, has told Fabrizio Romano he wants to leave Manchester City and join Roberto De Zerbi’s side as soon as possible, having already agreed personal terms with the Spurs.
Savinho arrived at Manchester City in 2024 from the City Football Group’s network after a breakout loan at Girona in La Liga, where he was hailed as one of Europe’s most exciting young wingers. The 22‑year‑old Brazilian signed a contract that runs until 2031.
During his two seasons at the Etihad Stadium he displayed moments of real quality but also inconsistency. In the 2025‑26 campaign he managed just 24 appearances across all competitions, struggling to secure a regular starting berth in Pep Guardiola’s crowded attacking unit.
The winger submitted a formal transfer request earlier this summer, prompting director of football Hugo Viana to enter discussions about a potential sale. City’s long‑term contract gives them significant leverage, and they are not prepared to accept a fee below their valuation.
Fabrizio Romano reported that the clubs are “pretty far apart” on a transfer fee, indicating a genuine impasse. The fee gap matters for City’s summer plans, as proceeds from a Savinho sale would free funds after the club’s investment in Elliot Anderson.
Tottenham’s interest dates back to last summer, and the Spurs see Roberto De Zerbi’s expansive, attacking philosophy as an ideal platform for the Brazilian winger. The arrival of Enzo Maresca and an already crowded wide‑forward group have convinced Savinho that a fresh start at Tottenham Hotspur is the best path for his career.
Savinho has already agreed personal terms with the Spurs, underscoring his commitment to the move. However, the fee disagreement must be resolved before the transfer window closes, and it remains uncertain whether he will still be a Manchester City player when the Premier League season opens against Bournemouth on 23 August.
