Tottenham rebuffs €10 million bid as Vasco chase Richarlison
In a London office on Thursday, Tottenham Hotspur dismissed Vasco da Gama's opening approach for Brazil striker Richarlison, rejecting a proposal worth roughly €10 million. Despite the setback, the Brazilian side says it will raise its offer and keep negotiations alive.
Tottenham reject Vasco's €10 million bid
The English club's decision came after reviewing the offer, which did not include any performance bonuses. The Clube’s officials confirmed the figure of around €10 million and indicated they intend to improve the terms to persuade the Premier League side. Tottenham's statement emphasized that the bid lacked any add‑on clauses that could offset the modest base fee.
Vasco's football Diretor Admar Lopes and senior adviser Pedrinho have been in direct talks with Tottenham representatives, exploring ways to increase the financial package. Both men stress that a higher bid could change the English club's stance. They also indicated willingness to discuss performance‑related add‑ons if required.
Richarlison's contract saga and Vasco's offer
Earlier this week Richarlison, who had sought a unilateral termination after not being registered for the Premier League, was unexpectedly reinstated into Tottenham's first‑team training. The reinstatement came after legal proceedings were set to commence, highlighting the club's change of heart. The move surprised Vasco, which had been preparing for a possible departure.
Em negotiations, the striker has indicated he would only remain in Brazil until December 2026 before reassessing his future abroad. Vasco's proposal includes a three‑and‑a‑half‑year contract, longer than the player’s own timeline. Vasco hopes the longer deal will give the player stability while he adapts back to Brazilian football.
“We understand Richarlison would raise Vasco’s offensive level and we are studying every possibility,” declared Vasco football director Admar Lopes. He added that talks with the English club remain ongoing and a deal appears feasible this window. Lopes believes the window remains open despite the earlier rejection.
Richarlison also received a financially attractive proposal from Turkey's Trabzonspor, which Tottenham rejected. The Turkish side's proposal was described as financially very advantageous, underscoring the player's market value. The refusal left the Brazilian dissatisfied and added tension to his relationship with the London side.
A lifelong Vasco supporter with family ties to the club, Richarlison has seen social‑media campaigns from supporters boost his enthusiasm for a return. Supporters' online campaigns have trended with hashtags celebrating a potential homecoming, reinforcing the emotional pull of the move.
