Tottenham Hotspur step up to land La Liga striker Roberto Fernandez

Journalist Graeme Bailey Tottenham Hotspur have stepped up their efforts to sign Espanyol centre‑forward Roberto Fernandez, the 24‑year‑old who has netted six goals in seven matches this season. The Spanish striker’s contract runs until the summer of 2031, meaning a move in 2027 would likely be the first realistic opportunity for the North London club.

Fernandez’s excellent form in La Liga

Fernandez has been a standout for Espanyol, delivering a prolific run of performances that has seen him rank among the most talented forwards in La Liga this season. His 1.86m frame allows him to win 50‑50 aerial duels, while his dribbling ability creates chances for teammates and adds a goal threat from wide positions.

Primarily a centre‑forward, he can also operate on either flank, giving Tottenham tactical flexibility. The Spanish forward’s ability to score important goals in the final third has attracted attention beyond Spain.

Spurs’ pursuit and contract hurdle

Spurs are reportedly working hard to acquire his services next year, aware that his contract expiry in 2031 could make a cut‑price deal difficult to secure. Graeme Bailey notes that the club must act swiftly if they hope to sign him before his value escalates.

Head coach Roberto De Zerbi sees Fernandez as a potential quality boost for his frontline, capable of challenging for a regular first‑team spot and helping the club push for a top‑half Premier League finish.

There are concerns about whether Fernandez can maintain his excellent form in the Premier League, but at 24 he still has his peak years ahead, making him a worthy target for a 2027 move.

Given the contract situation and his impact this season, De Zerbi would be wise to snap him up soon, adding depth and firepower to Tottenham’s attack.
