Tottenham face €100m barrier to re‑sign La Liga striker

Tottenham Hotspur have been warned that any attempt to bring back Troy Parrott will trigger a €100 million release clause at Real Betis, the Spanish side where the former academy striker now plays.

Why Betis set the price

Parrott, 24, impressed during a spell at AZ Alkmaar before moving to Real Betis this summer. His rapid development in Spain, highlighted by an early goal for Betis and a spectacular strike for the Republic of Ireland during the international break, has raised his market value.

Spurs' attacking woes

Tottenham’s current attack has struggled, with Roberto De Zerbi’s side scoring only two goals in their opening five Premier League matches. Established forwards have failed to deliver, prompting supporters to wonder whether Parrott could have offered a solution.

Parrott left north London permanently in 2024 after making just four senior appearances for Spurs and spending time on loan. His time in the Netherlands transformed him into a more reliable goalscorer, a trend that has continued in Spain.

Betis reportedly have no immediate concern about losing the striker, as his contract contains the €100 million clause. This means Tottenham would have to pay a premium to reverse a decision made two years ago.

There is currently no indication that Tottenham are preparing to trigger the clause, but the club faces an uncomfortable decision if it seriously considers a reunion.

Should the north London club eventually meet the clause, Parrott’s progress could serve as a painful reminder of the talent they let go.
