Tottenham eye title‑winning Dutchman as De Zerbi faces pressure

Tottenham Hotspur secured their first win of the season on Monday night, beating fellow strugglers Coventry City at home, a result credited to Roberto De Zerbi’s early‑season warm‑weather camp in Marbella, while the club has also been linked with a stunning move for Dutchman Arne Slot.

The Marbella camp, organised by the Italian manager, was hailed as a success after the squad displayed renewed intensity. Yet De Zerbi still carries pressure, with critics noting that the burden has not fully lifted from his shoulders.

With Chelsea next up in the league, Spurs could look to reinforce the bench by appointing a manager who has already lifted a top‑flight title. The club’s hierarchy is reportedly considering a candidate with proven experience.

Transfer speculation intensifies

Sport Witness relayed Dutch former Liverpool boss Arne Slot is a leading contender for the Tottenham job. Image credit: Getty Images. Slot’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, is in regular contact with European clubs and insists it is “certain that he will return to a major European club in 2027”.

added that Robin van Persie is being weighed for Nottingham Forest, while Oliver Glasner faces early challenges at the City Ground, underscoring the broader managerial market in which Slot is positioned for Tottenham.

Slot fills his spare time as a technical observer for UEFA, analysing current tactical trends during his time out of the game.

Slot’s record of success

At Liverpool, the 48‑year‑old guided the team to the Premier League title in his debut season, succeeding Jurgen Klopp after the German’s nine‑year tenure ended abruptly. The triumph marked Slot as a proven winner in England’s top flight.

Earlier, Slot delivered Eredivisie glory with Feyenoord in 2023 and steered the Rotterdam side to the inaugural Conference League final, where they were defeated by Jose Mourinho’s Roma.

However, his second season at Liverpool proved less rosy; the club slipped to fifth place, the dressing‑room atmosphere soured and Mohamed Salah was permitted to terminate his contract.

Slot was most recently linked with the Netherlands national team, a role that ultimately went to Xavi Hernández. Tottenham travel away to Chelsea this weekend as Premier League action continues.
