Tottenham eye ex-Chelsea duo as Milan open January Premier League market

Tottenham Hotspur have been approached by AC Milan with the possibility of signing former Chelsea defenders Fikayo Tomori and midfielder Ruben Loftus‑Cheek ahead of the January transfer window. Both Englishmen are in the final months of their contracts at the San Siro, and Milan have confirmed they are open to offers.

Why Milan are willing to let the pair go

According to TEAMtalk, the Rossoneri are reshaping their squad for the second half of the season and see the two experienced players as surplus to requirements. Tomori, 28, has not featured for Milan this season, while Loftus‑Cheek, 30, has slipped down the pecking order, making their futures increasingly uncertain.

The club’s contract situation adds urgency: both contracts run until 30 June 2027 with no renewal talks underway. Milan prefer to move the players in January rather than risk losing them for free next summer.

Tottenham’s interest amid a Premier League crisis

Tottenham’s need for defensive depth makes Tomori an attractive option, especially after a disastrous start that sees them bottom of the Premier League after five games – their worst opening in 18 years. Loftus‑Cheek offers midfield versatility, providing an experienced Premier League pedigree that could bolster the squad.

Intermediaries have reportedly contacted several clubs, including Newcastle United, Everton, Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, Sunderland and Fulham, but Tottenham remain among the most vocal. Coventry City, managed by former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard, also show keen interest, hoping to reunite with the duo.

If a deal materialises, Milan would benefit from freeing up squad space and potentially receiving a fee or loan arrangement, while Tottenham could acquire two seasoned Premier League players on cut‑price terms to aid their relegation battle.
