Torino’s €15m gamble on Lucas Perri to fill goalkeeping void

Torino’s €15m gamble on Lucas Perri to fill goalkeeping void

Torino are looking to plug a goalkeeping gap after securing a new first‑choice keeper, and they are set to complete the signing of Leeds United goalkeeper Lucas Perri. The €15 million deal, reported on Sunday, would see the Brazilian stopper join the Serie A club on loan with an option to buy.

Torino finished the 2025‑26 Serie A season in 12th place and manager Ignazio Abate is expected to install Perri as his first‑choice goalkeeper. The club’s recent defensive record underlines the urgency of securing a reliable shot‑stopper.

Loan with option to buy valued at €15m

According to reports from Fabrizio Romano and other sources, Torino have agreed an initial loan fee of €1 million for Perri. The agreement includes an option to purchase the stopper for an additional €14 million, bringing the total potential outlay to €15 million.

Perri has reportedly ‘said yes’ to the move, confirming his willingness to join Torino under the terms outlined by Romano. The loan‑with‑option structure gives Torino flexibility while securing a long‑term solution.

FA Cup penalty heroics and Leeds surplus

On APRIL 05, 2026 in London, ENGLAND, Perri saved a penalty from Jarrod Bowen of West Ham United during the Emirates FA Cup quarter‑final shoot‑out between West Ham United and Leeds United. The decisive save highlighted his composure under pressure.

Having spent just one season with Leeds United, Perri is now deemed surplus to requirements after the €52 million (£45 million) signing of England international James Trafford. Trafford’s arrival made Perri the second‑choice keeper at Elland Road.

James Trafford has become Leeds’s all‑time most expensive signing and holds the record for the most expensive English goalkeeper. His high price tag further limited Perri’s opportunities at the club.

With the departure of Perri, Torino anticipate he will become the undisputed starter between the posts, reinforcing a backline that struggled for consistency last season. The move represents a strategic shift for Torino as they aim to improve their defensive solidity.
