Torino's €14 M Perri deal stalls, Marseille left watching
Torino's €14 M deal for Brazilian goalkeeper Lucas Perri from Leeds United remains unfinalised after the Italian club blocked his medical, leaving OM watching the stalled transfer. The option includes a fourth‑year clause and was expected to be completed this week, but the medical blockage has kept the move in limbo.
Torino had taken a considerable lead over Marseille by securing an agreement with Leeds United and the former Olympique Lyonnais goalkeeper. The Italian club’s proposal set a €14 M purchase option and a fourth‑year extension, signalling strong intent before the recent setback.
Torino's medical concerns
The club expressed reservations about the Brazilian’s physical condition, prompting it to block Perri’s medical examination. Perri travelled to Italy this week but returned to England after the visit was halted, later appearing on Leeds’ bench against Nottingham on Saturday. According to Foot Mercato, the lack of a completed medical this week leaves the contract in doubt and could lead Torino to cancel the signing.
OM retains an infinitesimal chance should Torino abandon the signing, keeping a narrow window open. Marseille, overtaken in recent negotiations, remains on standby, awaiting any possible withdrawal by the Italian side.
Torino is also monitoring young goalkeeper Diego Mascardi, recently recruited, in the upcoming match against AC Milan. A convincing performance could lead the club to reassess the necessity of investing in Perri.
Implications for both clubs
If the medical issue persists, Torino may cancel the contract, leaving Perri at Leeds for the foreseeable future. For OM, the stalled deal preserves a slim opportunity, but the limited timeframe means any revival depends on Torino’s final decision.
