Tomiyasu’s full debut eases Palace injury doubts ahead of Cup tie

C・パレスDF冨安健洋、再負傷の懸念を払拭の活躍 – Takehiro Tomiyasu started and completed the full 90 minutes as Crystal Palace defeated Middlesbrough 3‑0 in the Carabao Cup third round, silencing fresh worries about a possible re‑injury. The Japanese international defender helped secure a clean sheet and delivered the decisive pass that set up Daichi Kamada’s first goal of the season.

Tomiyasu’s arrival and early games

Tomiyasu joined Crystal Palace on a free transfer on 7 August. He made his Premier League debut as a substitute against Everton and earned his first start in the second‑round cup tie with Manchester City, where he played until the 74th minute. After the City match, concerns about his fitness began to surface.

Local outlet We Are Palace noted that Tomiyasu appeared to watch his foot when he was substituted, and a later training video showed him absent from the full squad session, exercising on a treatment table. The report cited Getty Images【Images】 as the source of the visual evidence.

On 5 August Tomiyasu was named among the substitutes for the league clash with Fulham but did not feature. The following two days later he returned to the starting line‑up for the cup tie against Middlesbrough, occupying the left‑hand side of a three‑back defence.

Cup third‑round impact

Palace took the lead in the 37th minute through forward Jorgen Strand Larsen, who doubled the advantage at 53 minutes. In the 72nd minute Tomiyasu collected the ball on his own half and delivered a sharp vertical pass that released Larsen, whose subsequent pass found Daichi Kamada for a looping finish – Kamada’s first goal of the season.

Tomiyasu completed the full 90 minutes, helping Palace keep a clean sheet. His performance dispelled the immediate re‑injury doubts that had lingered after the City game.

Having struggled with recurring injuries during his time at Arsenal, Tomiyasu’s condition remains a key talking point. While one full appearance cannot settle long‑term fitness questions, the 90‑minute display offers a hopeful sign for his future contributions.
