Todibo's training return lifts RC Lens ahead of Lyon clash

Jean-Clair Todibo will rejoin the collective training session with RC Lens on Thursday, a reassuring development before the club host Olympique Lyonnais on Friday at the Bollaert stadium, and aims to boost the defensive options.

Having arrived in the summer, the central defender was rested during Wednesday’s session. He will train with the squad on Thursday, and Cahuzac explained, “He is in a process of regaining fitness. He will be on the pitch tomorrow at training. We will have a point after the session.” The defender’s progress follows a brief spell on the bench after missing the friendly against Liège last week.

Other players back in the squad

Yassine Titraoui, Saud Abdulhamid, Jhoanner Chávez and Samson Baidoo have all been cleared to train, providing additional depth for the upcoming clash. Titraoui, a promising midfielder, and Abdulhamid, a versatile defender, are expected to add dynamism. Chávez, a forward, and Baidoo, a centre‑back, bring experience despite differing fitness levels. Their availability gives coach Yannick Cahuzac more tactical flexibility on Friday.

Injury concerns linger

Abdallah Sima returned from international duty carrying an injury and will miss the Friday encounter, limiting the attacking options. Maik Nawrocki remains sidelined until the end of the season, further reducing defensive depth. Cahuzac acknowledged that the back line has been heavily tested since the campaign began, making each return crucial.

Cahuzac stressed that the defensive line has been heavily tested this season, but the gradual return of key players is a positive sign. He added, “A formidable opponent faces us,” underscoring the challenge posed by Olympique Lyonnais. The coach believes the refreshed squad can cope with the pressure of a high‑stakes match.

Todibo’s first minutes in a Lens shirt came in a match against Le Mans, and he later appeared at half‑time against Monaco. His absence from the recent friendly against Liège had raised concerns, making his Thursday return particularly encouraging. The defender’s gradual reintegration signals a steady improvement in his recovery.

With four players reintegrated and Todibo nearing full capacity, RC Lens head into the Bollaert showdown with enhanced options. The match on Friday will test the squad’s resilience against a strong Olympique Lyonnais side, and the coaching staff will monitor fitness closely throughout the game.
