Ticket crackdown looms over Manchester United ahead of Trondheim trip
Manchester United will travel to Trondheim, Norway on Friday at 17:00 BST to face Rosenberg, but back at Old Trafford the club has frozen the accounts of thousands of supporters in a ticket‑touting crackdown, leaving many season‑ticket holders still in limbo.
The crackdown operation was designed to identify potential ticket touts and has resulted in the restriction of "thousands" of fan accounts across the club’s ticketing system. Manchester United Supporters' Trust (MUST) confirmed the scale of the action, noting that the frozen accounts affect a large portion of season‑ticket holders.
MUST chief executive Duncan Drasdo told BBC Radio Manchester, "To have your season ticket cancelled is enormously emotionally impactful. It is their whole link to a network of friends. It has been hugely impactful." He made the statement during a live interview.
Earlier this week the club declined to comment when asked about the process or the reaction of supporters. The club did not provide further details on the ticket‑touting operation.
Drasdo said the trust has been "inundated" with requests from fans seeking advice and that it has "never had levels of contact like this". The trust added it is still struggling to clear a backlog of supporters.
MUST advises anyone affected to submit an appeal before any deadline and notes that a second appeal can be sent if the first is rejected. Supporters are urged to follow the appeal procedure promptly to avoid missing deadlines.
