Threat of dismissal looms over Jesus as Ronaldo's aide intervenes

While Jorge Jesus insists he has not apologised to Cristiano Ronaldo, his friend Carlos Padrão claims the national team coach was threatened with dismissal by Ronaldo’s employee Tiago Craveiro unless a public apology is issued. The allegation, revealed in a SIC Notícias interview, pits the coach’s stance against a purported ultimatum.

Threat and conditions

Segundo Carlos Padrão, Tiago Craveiro – a staff member of Cristiano Ronaldo – warned the national team coach that his job would be terminated unless he apologised publicly at a press conference. He said the demand was a condition for keeping the post.

Carlos added the threat was not addressed to Jorge Jesus directly but was allegedly passed to the coach’s lawyer. They allegedly drafted a script for an apology to Cristiano Ronaldo.

Jesus' reaction and Tiago's background

The friend said Jorge Jesus admitted an error and justified his decision, yet refused to apologise, noting that admitting a mistake differs from apologising. He quoted Jesus: “Admitir um erro é uma coisa, pedir desculpa é outra.”

Carlos said he spoke with the coach on Tuesday morning and that Jorge Jesus is very sad about the episode. The disappointment was described as personal rather than professional.

Tiago Craveiro has sat on FIFA and UEFA working groups, serving as administrator of UEFA Club Competitions. After leaving the Portuguese Football Federation in 2022 for UEFA duties, he became a strategic consultant for CR7 SA at the end of 2023.

The story first appeared on Bola na Rede. It adds another layer to the dispute between the national team’s management and Ronaldo’s camp.
