Thomas Tuchel recalls Trent Alexander-Arnold and Cole Palmer
In the corridors of Wembley Stadium, Thomas Tuchel unveiled his upcoming international squad, recalling Trent Alexander‑Arnold and Cole Palmer, who missed the World Cup, for the four upcoming Nations League matches.
Selection for the Nations League
Left out to general surprise last May, Trent Alexander‑Arnold (34 caps) and Cole Palmer (14 caps) return to the squad. Thomas Tuchel has included them to face Spain on September 26, the Czech Republic on September 29 and October 6, as well as Croatia on October 3.
Among the major absentees, Phil Foden will have to wait for his return, as will Reece James, Harry Maguire and Morgan Gibbs‑White. Their omission follows a start to the season judged without much relief for some.
Injured, Inter Milan's Djed Spence and Crystal Palace's Dean Henderson remain on the sidelines. Noni Madueke, who was at the World Cup, sees his start to the season missed at Arsenal. Ollie Watkins, exiled in Saudi Arabia for a few weeks, is not called up either.
These absences open the door to other players, including Dominic Calvert‑Lewin, who returns to the squad. Lewis Hall and the 19‑year‑old youngster Myles Lewis‑Skelly also join the group.
Rio Ngumoha, 18, and Alex Scott, 23, were selected after being watched by Tuchel before the World Cup. Their presence strengthens the depth of the English squad.
Thus, Thomas Tuchel's choices reshape England's lineup, giving several young talents the chance to wear the Three Lions jersey. The upcoming Nations League fixtures will be the occasion to gauge the impact of these changes.
