The Netherlands postpones training schedule due to Bart Koeman's funeral

The funeral of Bartina Koeman, the wife of former Dutch national coach Ronald Koeman, will take place this Wednesday. Out of respect for the long‑standing staff members of the team, tomorrow's press conference and the Oranje's final training have been postponed, so the national team must reorganise its preparation.

Bartina Koeman passed away last week at the age of 65, after having suffered from chronic breast cancer for several years. The death of his wife has moved many in the Netherlands and also affected the mood within the squad.

Rescheduled dates of the national team

To give the long‑standing staff of Ronald Koeman the opportunity to attend the funeral, the press conference was moved forward to 11:00 a.m. The final training was shifted from its original time to 5:30 p.m., and the new national coach Xavi is already speaking with the media.

The Dutch eleven will host Germany on Thursday at 8:45 p.m. in the Amsterdam Arena for the opening of the Nations League. For Xavi and the German coach Jürgen Klopp, it is their first international match as national coaches.

Ronald Koeman stepped down from his position as national coach after the disappointing World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico, where the team was eliminated in the group stage by Morocco. His resignation and the loss of his wife shape the current situation of the team.

The rescheduling gives the long‑standing staff the chance to attend the memorial service, while preparation for the Nations League match continues.
