Ter Stegen praises Ajax's renewal, Brandt's future unclear

Ter Stegen returns to Johan Cruyff Arena

Ter Stegen makes his return for Germany in the Johan Cruyff Arena against the Oranje, the stadium of Ajax.

At the press conference he said: “The past years have not been ideal. They have now tried to change many things. I think the goal this year is to compete for the national title and to show that we are ready for it. We have attracted a number of great players for that.”

He added: “Of course it takes time to fine‑tune everything, but I am glad that Julian Brandt has adapted so well.”

Brandt is not in the German squad. Ter Stegen explained: “Whether he returns to the national team is not my decision, but the coach is keeping an eye on him. It is good for Julian to continue after the international break where he left off. Then we will see what the future brings.”
