Tengstedts' Toulouse revolution overshadows Feyenoord flop
On a sun‑drenched Saturday at the Stade Ernest‑Wallon, the Danish striker Casper Tengstedt was seen finding the ball in the net, his fourth goal in as many games, while Toulouse secured a draw against AS Monaco. The moment marked a clear contrast with his unremarkable spell at Feyenoord.
Quick impact in Southern France
Since his late summer transfer from Rotterdam, Tengstedt has featured in all four matches for the Violets, delivering four goals and one assist. The only downside is that he was only signed late in the summer, which meant he barely featured for Feyenoord.
Head coach Jens Berthel Askou praised the Danish forward. “Who knows how good our start to the season would have been if Casper had arrived earlier?” he said, quoted by L’Équipe, and added that Tengstedt “is a very talented forward, with a range of qualities, technically very skilful and well involved in our play.”
Tengstedt himself felt at home immediately. “Last season I played little. Now I feel that the club has confidence in me, and I want to repay that confidence,” he explained, emphasizing that “I feel at home in Toulouse, my teammates, the coach; everyone trusts me.”
In the summer of 2025 Feyenoord bought him from Benfica for six million euros, but he remained in Rotterdam South a permanent backup to Ayase Ueda and was overtaken by Shaqueel van Persie. After 24 goals and five assists he left De Kuip, causing the Rotterdam club to incur a loss of several million euros on the sale.
His rapid rise in France underscores how crucial timely integration can be for young talents, and shows that a failed spell in one country does not necessarily mean the end of a career.
