Telstar’s defensive boost: Sem Valk signs until 2029

Update: Telstar announced on Monday that 24‑year‑old defender Sem Valk has joined the club from FC Dordrecht on a contract running until mid‑2029, after making two competitive appearances this season in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie and serving as captain for the Dordtenaren, having logged 71 official matches for the side.

Why Telstar pursued Valk

Telstar’s recruitment drive this summer already saw free‑transfer signings of Marvin Peersman, Rui Mendes and Fofin Turay after their spell at FC Groningen. Adding Valk strengthens a defence that the club has been rebuilding with experienced Dutch players.

Valk progressed through the Feyenoord youth system, made a single appearance for the Feyenoord first team and, since the summer of 2024, has been a mainstay for FC Dordrecht, captaining the side and amassing 71 official games. He featured in two Keuken Kampioen Divisie matches this season.

“I am enormously happy with this step,” Valk said on the club’s website. “Telstar has a clear ambition and I look forward to becoming part of this club and achieving beautiful results together.”

Technical manager Peter Hofstede welcomed the deal, stating, “Sem is a player who has already shown many leadership qualities. He brings height, football ability and mentality.” He added that the club is convinced Valk can make an important contribution.

In December 2021, Valk suffered a fall during a home Conference League match against Maccabi Haifa. The incident was noted as a memorable moment in his early career.

The signing gives Telstar a defender with proven leadership and physical presence, while Valk secures a contract to mid‑2029 with a club that has articulated clear ambitions for future success.
