Teddy Sheringham crowns Liverpool’s Isak best striker over Haaland
In a studio interview, former England forward Teddy Sheringham declared Alexander Isak the Premier League’ best striker, deliberately overlooking Manchester City’s Erling Haaland. The Norway international has netted 169 goals in 205 appearances for City since his summer 2022 arrival from Borussia Dortmund.
Sheringham praised Isak’s recent resurgence, noting the 27‑year‑old has scored four goals in his opening five games of the current season. He described the Swede’s movement as “sharp shooting, getting it out of his feet and… bang, goal!”.
Isak’s resurgence at Liverpool
Isak joined Liverpool from Newcastle in the summer of 2025 for a reported £125m fee. His first campaign was marred by injuries, but Sheringham believes the striker is “back to his best” after a prolific start to his second season.
Speaking passionately, Sheringham highlighted Isak’s four‑goal haul against Ipswich Town and his decisive finish versus Bournemouth. He added, “He knows where the goal is on both sides, and he really is fantastic in the box, just being in the right place at the right time.”

Haaland’s record and uncertain future
Haaland has claimed the Golden Boot in three of his four Premier League seasons, only missing out to Mohamed Salah in 2024/25. His tally of 169 goals in 205 games makes him the most valuable footballer in the world on Transfermarkt, tied with Lamine Yamal at €220m (£187m).
Despite his contract running until 2034, Haaland’s future is clouded after Manchester City were found guilty of breaching the Premier League’s financial rules. The club now faces a possible expulsion from the English top flight.
Sheringham’s comments also referenced the Man City duo Erling Haaland and Rayan Cherki, underscoring the depth of talent at the club. While Haaland remains a favourite, the former England legend’s endorsement of Isak adds a fresh narrative to the striker race.
