Tebas says Real Madrid tie stays broken while Florentino leads

The feud has intensified since the recent Madrid derby that ended in a 2-1 loss for the Merengues. Los Blancos were visibly displeased with the referee’s decisions, a sentiment echoed by manager Jose Mourinho and the club’s own television broadcast.

Tebas responded sharply to the club’s complaints, accusing Real Madrid of undermining the league’s authority. In turn, the club issued a forceful statement demanding a change of leadership within La Liga. The exchange underscored the widening rift between the league chief and the Spanish giants.

Following the club’s official rebuke, Tebas posted a lengthy message on X, accusing Real Madrid of diverting attention from other problems. He reiterated his long tenure, noting, “If I weren’t responsible, I wouldn’t have been here for twelve years.” He added that the ongoing criticism reflects “a disgrace and a lack of respect for everyone: La Liga, the clubs and the supporters.”

When pressed about the derby’s refereeing, Tebas said he understood the criticism but could not accept the competition was rigged. He defended the handling of Jude Bellingham’s incident, insisting the player could never have been sent off. Regarding Kang‑in Lee’s challenge on Federico Valverde, Tebas acknowledged the situation could have warranted a red card but argued it was not as clear‑cut as portrayed, despite the CTA’s admission that the Atletico star should have been dismissed.

Refereeing criticism and personal ties

Tebas was asked directly about his relationship with Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez. He replied, “As long as Florentino remains president of Real Madrid, the relationship is irreparable.” He criticised Pérez’s model of football, stating he does not support it and would reconsider if a new president were elected.

Nevertheless, Tebas clarified that his disagreement is with the current directors, not with the club itself. He recalled that Real Madrid has been his favourite team since childhood, emphasizing that his personal affection remains untouched by the professional clash.
