Tebas: Real Madrid criticises congestion and warns of a Super League
Javier Tebas, president of LaLiga, said on Monday that Real Madrid is the most rebellious team in the competition during the First National Journalism and Sport Sessions in Vigo, where he met with mayor Abel Caballero and Celta president Marián Mourinho, and addressed a message to Florentino Pérez.
The event was organized by the Galician Association of Sports Journalists, an organization that brings together sports journalism professionals in the region. Journalist Ramón Fuentes, from Madrid, covered the day, which was held at the association’s headquarters in the city of Vigo.
Alongside Tebas, the mayor of Vigo, Abel Caballero, and the president of Celta de Vigo, Marián Mourinho, attended the round‑table, highlighting the close relationship between the league and local institutions.
Rebelliousness of Real Madrid
Tebas said: “The most rebellious team in Spain is Real Madrid because the executives of Madrid have a way of understanding football that I do not have.” He added that, unlike other clubs, the white side shows an attitude that defies established rules.
In his speech he also cited Nasser Al‑Khelaifi as an example of the European vision of football, and used the metaphor of a train in which Madrid and Barça are locomotives, while the other teams represent the carriages that are also needed.
Alert about a Superliga
The president denounced the congestion of the international calendar, pointing out that LaLiga has had twenty teams for years, but that the proliferation of national team matches, European competitions and the Club World Cup is complicating planning.
Tebas warned that, if the situation persists, national football will be destroyed and a Superliga will be pursued, describing an initiative “in slow motion” that, according to him, some executives, including Florentino Pérez, are deliberately seeking.
He urged clubs and the federation to take immediate measures to avoid a two‑speed split in Spanish football and preserve the competitiveness of the league.
