La Liga president Javier Tebas took to social media on Tuesday to reject Real Madrid’s accusations of a refereeing conspiracy after the club’s 2‑1 derby defeat to Atlético Madrid, describing the narrative as "in another galaxy".

Real Madrid coach José Mourinho confronted referee Miguel Ángel Ortiz Arias on the pitch following the loss, brandishing two printed screenshots that he said showed red‑card tackles by Atlético players. The confrontation was captured in a photograph by Bernat Armangué, which the agency posted with the caption "View image in fullscreen".

In the post‑match press conference, Mourinho presented the screenshots as evidence of bias, intensifying the debate over officiating standards in the Spanish league.

Tebas fires back at pro‑Real article

Earlier on Tuesday, Tebas responded to a Guardian article that had been promoted on Google, calling the piece a “pro‑Real” narrative that perpetuated the myth of a permanent conspiracy orchestrated by "the mouthpieces and the regime’s television".

He warned that the article went further, alleging that referees harmed "the business that feeds them" and questioning whether refereeing should be driven by revenue, viewership or club badge.

Tebas argued that pointing to a conspiracy is an easy excuse for the shortcomings evident in the opening matches, saying it is more comfortable to blame referees than to address on‑pitch performance.
