Tchouaméni dissects France's defeat to Spain, 100 days after World Cup
In the bright studio of his show The Bridge, broadcast on YouTube, Aurélien Tchouaméni relives the moment that shattered the hopes of the Bleus. He describes last July 14, when, in the heart of the stadium, France fell 0‑2 to the Roja, before experiencing a small final 4‑6.
Defeat of the Bleus against the Roja
On July 14, 2026, during the World Cup semi‑final, the Bleus conceded two goals without reply, losing 0‑2 to Spain, here referred to as the Roja. The result was considered logical by observers, the Spaniards being the future winners of the trophy. A few days later, France suffered another defeat, losing 4‑6 in a small final described as spectacular but anecdotal.
One hundred days have passed since that disaster, leaving the players and staff with a sense of helplessness. The failure has fueled criticism, particularly regarding the Bleus' ability to handle big occasions.
Tchouaméni's analysis on The Bridge
Aurélien Tchouaméni chose this precise moment to revisit the match as part of his show. On YouTube, he explained that the defeat was all the more painful because France had fallen “from a high” after a series of convincing performances up to the semi‑final.
Tchouaméni criticises France after its defeat to La Roja
“For us, what was hard is that we fell from a high. We performed so well in the matches up to the semi‑final… When you lose in the semi, suddenly our dream of reaching the final and winning the World Cup – which had even become a goal when you look at the matches we played – stops. After 90 minutes, you tell yourself: ‘It’s over…’” Tchouaméni said.
The Real Madrid midfielder does not hide the superiority of the Spaniards. He recalled that, like at Euro 2024, the Roja dominated the game, showing a clear plan and mastering every phase. “They dominated us, it’s a bit like Euro 2024,” he affirmed.
Tchouaméni himself was limited during the semi‑final, suffering a thigh discomfort. This injury kept him on the bench for the round of 16 and the quarter‑final, before returning for the match against the Roja.

He emphasized that adrenaline can be a double‑edged sword. “Everyone dreams of playing a World Cup final, but the harsh truth on the pitch is: if you win, you’re congratulated; if you lose, you’re blamed for coming back,” the player concluded.
