Switzerland wins, while San Marino brushes off a draw

Switzerland's 3-0 victory over North Macedonia confirms its group‑top position and puts it in pole position to reach League A of the next Nations League, while San Marino's performance in Albania was compromised by a penalty in added time.

A decisive match and costly errors

Fabian Rieder opened the scoring before the break, in the 43rd minute. Johan Manzambi, who came on at halftime, found the net in the 74th minute. Dan Ndoye, already decisive in the two previous wins, sealed the victory in the 81st minute.

All three goals stemmed from Macedonian errors. A backward pass was missed, a handball by the goalkeeper gave away a penalty, and a very risky clearance by a defender allowed the third goal.

Under the guidance of Murat Yakin, Switzerland, relegated to the 'Second Division' after the last edition of the Nations League, does not seem intent on wasting time. A draw in Slovenia on November 13 would be enough to secure promotion to League A.

In the same group, Slovenia beat Scotland 2-1 after a 0-0 home draw ten days earlier. Led by Ryan Christie’s goal in the 31st minute, they turned the game around thanks to Aljosa Matko (57th) and Danijel Sturm (71st).

This win keeps Slovenia in contention for promotion, with the group’s second place offering the chance to contest a playoff. Thus, the group remains open, with every result capable of altering the final standings.
