Surprise suitors for Cody Gakpo as Man City joins race

On Tuesday, Soccer News NL (Dutch) said Manchester City entered the race for Liverpool and Netherlands forward Cody Gakpo, 27, as Tottenham also chase him; Newcastle reached a deal with City for Spain midfielder Nico Gonzalez, 24, for £47 million plus £3 million add‑ons, noted by Fabrizio Romano, and Manchester United are confident of signing Arsenal’s England's 19‑year‑old Myles Lewis‑Skelly for £50 million.

Newcastle and Chelsea make moves

Newcastle have also submitted a 40 million‑euro (£34.2 million) offer, excluding bonuses, for Lille and Belgium forward Matias Fernandez‑Pardo, 21. Chelsea have seen three of their bids rejected this summer for Bournemouth and England midfielder Alex Scott, 23.

Hull have put forward a 21 million‑euro (£17.9 million) proposal for Union Berlin and Germany Under‑21 forward Ilyas Ansah, with talks on a long‑term contract advanced. AC Milan are weighing a late‑window move for Manchester United and Morocco defender Noussair Mazraoui, 28.

Coventry have agreed a £6 million deal to sign Brentford and Jamaica defender Ethan Pinnock, 33. Monza will offer former Tottenham and England midfielder Dele Alli, 30, a one‑year contract after his September 2025 release from Como.

The Newcastle‑Manchester City arrangement is described as a verbal agreement.
