Surprise birthday serenade for Lautaro Martínez in Milan
On 22 August, Inter striker Lautaro Martínez celebrated his 29th birthday as he drove through the streets of Milan, only to be halted by a chorus of well‑wishers singing ‘happy birthday’ while his car rolled past the Giuseppe Meazza stadium after Inter’s 4‑1 triumph over Monza on Serie A opening day.
Birthday celebration after 4-1 win
Martínez started the match that saw Inter dominate Monza 4‑1, a result that opened the Serie A season in Italy. The victory gave the Argentine forward a festive backdrop for his personal milestone. He was listed in the lineup for the first fixture of the campaign, confirming his role as a key starter.
The surprise unfolded as Martínez navigated Milan’s avenues, when a group of people in a second car pulled alongside and began singing the traditional birthday chant. Their purpose was clear: to wish the striker a happy birthday. The scene captured the spontaneity of the moment, with Martínez unable to hide his delight.
Martínez’s wife, Agustina Gandolfo, was in the vehicle and recorded the episode, later sharing the clip on Instagram. A second video from the other car also circulated, showing the singers side‑by‑side with the Inter star. Giuliana Gandolfo, Agustina’s sister, posted the footage on her public profile, noting that the group were close acquaintances of the Argentine forward and had gathered at the Giuseppe Meazza stadium to surprise him.
Martínez replied, “Gracias mi vida, te amo tanto”.
Inter rejects Barcelona overtures
Amid the celebrations, rumours linked Barcelona with a move for the 29‑year‑old forward. Inter president Giuseppe Marotta dismissed any departure, telling that “Lautaro is our captain and represents the history of Inter today, and there are no circumstances that could push him to leave. We should not even talk about it”.
Spanish reports claimed Barcelona had prepared a proposal below 100 million euros, after a meeting between Martínez’s agent Alejandro Camaño and sporting director Deco. The Catalan club’s interest is driven by the need to replace Robert Lewandowski and Ferrán Torres for their upcoming match against Elche.
Martínez remains Inter’s captain and a locker‑room leader, having scored 174 goals for the Milan club. He is the foreign player with the most goals in Inter’s history, surpassed only by Italians Giuseppe Meazza (284) and Alessandro Altobelli (209).
