Sunderland counts on Brobbey's quick recovery after hamstring injury
On a chilly Thursday afternoon, Sunderland‑manager Régis Le Bris held a press conference in the club house, where he discussed the recent hamstring injury of the 24‑year‑old striker Brian Brobbey. The manager emphasized that the injury “is manageable” and that he expects the Dutch striker to be fit again soon for the Premier League‑club.
Brobbey, who started in the first match of the Netherlands after the international break against Germany (1‑1) immediately in the starting eleven, had to leave the field early because of a hamstring problem. After the injury he left the Netherlands‑camp and returned to England to receive treatment at Sunderland.
Injury information
Le Bris said on Thursday that the injury will be “short‑term” and that there is no reason for major concerns. “We were a bit worried, but after the match Brian didn’t worry too much,” he explained during the press meeting.
The manager added that the upcoming match against Brighton & Hove Albion, which takes place on Saturday, seems “too early” for Brobbey. “Fortunately it is not serious. But we are not taking any risks,” emphasized Le Bris.
Brobbey’s start at Sunderland
The Amsterdam native had just begun to find his footing with the Black Cats; in the first four league matches he had not yet scored a single goal. However, just before the international break he netted a hat‑trick in a 5‑3 loss away at Manchester City.
Despite the recent hat‑trick, Sunderland continue to look for consistent finishing from their young striker. The club hopes that once he is fully recovered, he can transfer his goal‑scoring instinct to Premier League matches.
With the injury update and the upcoming clash against Brighton, the expectation remains that Brobbey can soon play a role again in Sunderland’s attacking line, a development that could benefit both the club and the Dutch national team.
