Sunderland chase depth with Brighton Lily Dent on season loan
19‑year‑old Lily Dent joins Sunderland on a season‑long loan from Brighton & Hove Albion, announced by the Lady Black Cats on their website today, as the Wearside club moves to plug a clear gap in its attack for the 2026/27 campaign.
The loan is Sunderland’s seventh signing of the summer transfer window, underscoring the club’s intent to add depth to the forward line as they prepare for the upcoming season. Management describes the move as a strategic effort to increase competition among attackers.
Dent will remain at the Wearside side for the entire 2026/27 campaign, a deal designed to further her development while giving Sunderland a versatile attacking option. The arrangement also offers flexibility in rotation and tactical setups.
The 19‑year‑old entered the Brighton & Hove Albion academy in the summer of 2022 and has since progressed to the senior squad, reflecting the club’s confidence in her potential.
She made her senior debut for The Seagulls in a fixture against Chelsea in January 2024 and has added a handful of further appearances, gaining experience at the highest domestic level.
Dent signed her first professional contract with Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer of 2024, cementing her status as a full‑time member of the senior roster.
Internationally, she has represented England at various youth levels, reaching up to the Under‑20 side, which adds another dimension to her development.
After joining Sunderland, Dent said, “It has been great so far. The people here have been amazing and really welcoming from the start. I’m just excited to get going now. I want to take every opportunity that comes my way at Sunderland. I know there will be plenty of ups and downs, but I’m looking forward to getting started and making the most of every opportunity.”
Her arrival gives Sunderland a young, motivated attacker ready to compete for minutes, with the club expecting her to seize every chance to contribute during the season. Progress will be monitored as she adapts to the rigours of Wearside football.
