Sunday’s Swiss Cup first round sees no Superligist stumble

In the first Runde Schweizer Cup on Sonntag, even the Superligist clubs stumbled not a single time, as the early matches unfolded under a bright Alpine sky in Thalwil, where the defending champion St. Gallen began its mission of Titelverteidigung with a decisive 0‑3 victory.

FC St. Gallen opened the cup campaign with a hard Stück Arbeit, taking the lead after half an hour when Betim Fazliji scored his first goal in almost three years. Leon Frokaj, subbed on in the 60th minute, doubled the advantage to 2‑0, and later sealed the win at the final hour for a 3‑0 shutout.

Local derbies and surprising scores

Luzern travelled to Buochs where the atmosphere was already prächtig, thanks in part to ski‑star Marco Odermatts launching the symbolic kick in front of the eyes of the hometown crowd. The match lacked much Glanz as Luzern’s brothers Bung Hua and Bung Meng Freimann started, while Buochs fielded their sibling Bung Tsai; Pius Dorn (13’) and Sandro Wyss (33’) put the favourites ahead, and Oscar Kabwit added a third in the 78th minute.

Meanwhile, Meister Thun met a early‑dezimierten Saxon side that never found a Chance; the Saxon defence crumbled quickly and Thun capitalised without giving the opposition a foothold.

Off‑the‑field moments and dominant displays

Lugano delighted fans in their new stadium with an offensive showcase, the Bianconeri scoring the sole «Stängeli» of the round as Daniel Dos Santos and Beckham Castro each hit a hat‑trick, while Armia Ahmari celebrated an honourable goal.

Sion entered Kerzers after a short Schock but responded with a powerful Viertelstunde that turned into a Kantersieg, reaching 6‑1 by the 64th minute thanks to five different scorers, with Josias Lukembila finding the net twice.

Overall, the first round of the Swiss Cups proved that no Superligist faltered, setting a tone of high‑quality football and confirming the defending champions’ determination as the competition moves forward.
