Summerville's €80m megatransfer to Al‑Hilal reshapes his career

Crysencio Summerville, the 24‑year‑old Dutch forward currently at West Ham United, is set to join Saudi Arabian giants Al‑Hilal in a deal reported by The Athletic to be worth around €80 million, with the medical already scheduled and a long‑term contract awaiting signature.

The agreement between Al‑Hilal and West Ham United was confirmed by The Athletic, which said the Saudi club has reached a deal with the London side involving approximately €80 million. Summerville will undergo a medical examination in the short term before finalising a lengthy contract with the Riyadh‑based team.

Italian media reported that AS Roma withdrew from the race after Al‑Hilal presented a superior offer and a salary package far beyond what the Serie A club could match. The Italian press highlighted the disparity between the Saudi proposal and the terms Roma were prepared to meet.

Earlier this month, AS Roma had tabled a €46 million bid for the winger, while Manchester United and Aston Villa also expressed interest. None of those clubs could match the megabid put forward by Al‑Hilal, which ultimately secured the transfer.

Speculation about Summerville leaving West Ham had been circulating since the club's relegation to the Championship. The winger, eager for a new challenge, was linked with a move abroad after the Hammers' drop to the second tier.

Summerville enjoyed a breakthrough with the Dutch national team, Oranje, this summer. After making his debut in June, he was surprisingly included in Ronald Koeman’s World Cup squad, appearing in four matches, scoring twice and providing two assists before missing a penalty in the shoot‑out defeat to Morocco in the round of 16.

At West Ham United, Summerville featured regularly during the season but could not prevent the club’s relegation to the Championship, despite his contributions on the pitch.

The forward progressed through the Feyenoord youth system, spent loan spells at FC Dordrecht and ADO Den Haag, then moved to England. His performances at Leeds United earned a roughly €30 million transfer to West Ham United, paving the way for the current €80 million move to Al‑Hilal.
