Stuttgart’s goalkeeping depth crumbles as two keepers sidelined
Stuttgart enters the new Bundesliga campaign with a stark contrast: the club had planned to build its defence around newly‑signed number one Dennis Seimen, yet both Seimen and backup Justin Diehl are now sidelined for months, leaving the Swabians with a severely thinned goalkeeping department.
VfB Stuttgart announced on its official channels that the two goalkeepers will miss the start of the upcoming Bundesliga season, each expected to be out for several months. The announcement underscores a sudden reduction in the Swabians’ roster depth.
The club confirmed that both keepers are ruled out for months, describing the situation as a blow to depth ahead of the campaign. Their injuries were disclosed simultaneously, highlighting the scale of the setback.
While Justin Diehl has been on Stuttgart’s books, he never established himself as a regular starter since joining the club. His injury now removes the only recognised backup option from the squad.
Dennis Seimen arrived after a strong season with Paderborn and was earmarked as the new first‑choice goalkeeper following Alex Nübel’s departure. Stuttgart had positioned Seimen as the young beacon of hope for the upcoming campaign.
Seimen’s long‑term absence therefore disrupts the blueprint that was built around his arrival. The club has not confirmed whether it will seek another goalkeeper in the transfer market or rely on Fabian Bredlow to start between the posts.
Losing both Diehl and Seimen is a bitter blow for VfB Stuttgart and for Seimen personally, who had been expected to lead the defence. The gap in the position may affect the team’s early performances as the new season approaches.
