Stuttgart board sounds alarm after Gladbach loss, league warning
VfB Stuttgart sport director Fabian Wohlgemuth was visibly upset after the Swabians fell 2‑3 to Borussia Mönchengladbach. He said, “Das muss man aufarbeiten, das beschäftigt alle. Das war ein Tiefpunkt in der Liga. Das ist ein Signal an alle.” The defeat left the club at the bottom of the table.
League slump deepens
In the Bundesliga the Schwaben side have recorded five defeats in just seven matches, slipping far below pre‑season expectations. The 2‑3 loss against the previously winless Borussia Mönchengladbach marked a new low point in the League campaign.
By contrast, Stuttgart’s Champions League campaign is thriving, sitting on seven points after the first two fixtures. The disparity between European success and domestic struggles has amplified the sense of urgency within the club.
Coach Hoeneß issues warning
Head coach Sebastian Hoeneß described the situation as a “großer Warnschuss”. He warned that the squad, including captain Deniz Undav, must understand that “we have to invest more” to turn fortunes around.
Undav, the team’s leading striker, was urged to raise his standards, while Ermedin Demirovic, who netted twice against Gladbach, told teammates, “Everyone should hold themselves accountable, especially when moments are difficult.”
Stuttgart’s next challenge arrives on Wednesday in the DFB‑Pokal against SC Paderborn. Demirovic admitted the situation is “not easy” and insisted the side must return to basics. A further test looms on Saturday when they travel to Bayer Leverkusen, where the league outlook appears bleak.
Wohlgemuth added that the team “did not manage the negative developments in the game”, stressing that it must be clear to everyone that more is required to win. Hoeneß echoed this, saying the priority is to recognise reality before looking at the table.
The club hopes to draw the right conclusions and restore balance between its Champions League form and domestic performance.
