Strasbourg’s €10 million push finally wins Real Madrid’s Ortega
Strasbourg finally persuaded Real Madrid to let 20‑year‑old striker Jacobo Ortega join Ligue 1, after an initial €8 million bid fell short and a revised €10 million offer secured 70 % of his rights. The Alsace club identified the Real Madrid forward as a priority target early in the transfer window.
Strasbourg did not obtain Jacobo Ortega at the first attempt. The Alsace side had quickly marked the Real Madrid attacker as a priority target, but the early conditions proposed were insufficient to close the operation.
Financial terms evolve
Selon AS, Strasbourg’s first proposal was €8 million for 50 % of the player’s rights. The club’s initial offer therefore fell short of Real’s expectations.
Negotiations continued and the final agreement is expected to reach €10 million, this time with 70 % of the rights transferred to the French club. The double improvement on price and percentage brought the parties closer.
Player profile and next steps
Le club Real Madrid thus completes a particularly advantageous deal for a player who has never started in La Liga. Most of his minutes last season were with Real Madrid C, and he exploded during the second half of the campaign.
Jacobo Ortega confirmed his form with Castilla and in the Youth League, showcasing his potential. At 20 years old, he must now pass a medical before joining Ligue 1.
Les discussions were aided by an extra effort on two essential elements, according to reports. Sporting director David Weir played an important role, and the project presented by Strasbourg and BlueCo appealed to the striker over interest from Spanish clubs such as Elche.
