Strasbourg eyes Nice’s Kojo Oppong as defensive lifeline
RC Strasbourg Alsace have opened enquiries about OGC Nice’s 22‑year‑old Ghanaian defender Kojo Oppong, according to L’Équipe. The Alsatian side sees the player, who is under contract until 2029, as a potential defensive addition and hopes to secure a tidy sum from Nice.
The club’s pursuit follows the recent collapse of Ibrahima Ba’s transfer. Ba, 21, signed for Sporting CP after a failed medical, leaving Strasbourg still in need of defensive reinforcements.
Adding to the uncertainty, 23‑year‑old Ismaël Doukouré could also depart in the coming weeks, further widening the gap in the back line.
Oppong, regarded as one of Nice’s few bright spots last season, has already logged 43 appearances across all competitions, including 29 Ligue 1 matches, 28 of them as a starter. His consistent playing time and contract running to 2029 make him an attractive target for a club seeking immediate defensive solidity.
Oppong is also on the radar of Turkish club Trabzonspor, which have named him their top target, indicating competition for his signature.
Should Strasbourg succeed, they would bolster their back line while Nice could cash in on a player whose value is set to rise, potentially easing the club’s financial aims.
