Stolen at his home, Gulacsi loses the match against Napoli

In the early hours of today, Villarreal goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi was the victim of an armed robbery at his home in Monasterios (Puzol) while he was with his family. The shock left the Hungarian without sufficient rest and, as the club confirmed, he is not fit to play the match tonight in the Champions League against Napoli.

Immediate impact on the line‑up

With Gulacsi unavailable, manager Iñigo Pérez has announced that Luiz Júnior will guard Villarreal’s goal at La Cerámica. The Brazilian had been a starter during the first four league matches, but lost his place when Pérez decided that Gulacsi should be the goalkeeper in the Champions, starting with the match against Borussia Dortmund.

Background of the first‑choice goalkeeper

Gulacsi joined Villarreal in the summer on a free transfer, with the intention of being Luiz Júnior’s backup before moving up the manager’s hierarchy. Since the clash against Borussia Dortmund, the Hungarian had established himself as a starter in the European competition.

The club reported that the relevant authorities were notified immediately and are carrying out the appropriate procedures. Fortunately, none of the occupants of the house were injured, although the emotional impact was considerable.

With Gulacsi out, Villarreal faces a significant challenge in the Champions League group stage, while Luiz Júnior returns to the goal he had left at the start of the season.
