Stewart balks at Rangers' pull‑out on Driouech's four‑year deal

A four‑year contract for Couhaib Driouech was scrapped by Rangers FC after the club withdrew from the deal, prompting technical director Earnest Stewart of PSV to voice his displeasure in a statement posted at 17:15 today over the handling of his injury.

Rangers withdraw over injury concerns

Rangers pulled the plug on the transfer because they could not immediately field Driouech, citing a small injury as the reason for the decision. The club’s statement explained that the deal was terminated since Driouech was not directly available for selection.

PSV estimated Driouech’s recovery period at roughly three weeks, while Rangers believed he would be unavailable for about six weeks. The differing medical assessments created the impasse that led to the cancellation.

According to Stewart, “I don’t understand. He went to the club with a minor injury. They make this decision based on immediate availability, even though it concerns a four‑year contract.” The PSV technical director expressed clear frustration with the rationale.

He added, “It’s a minor injury; you can still enjoy about 200 weeks from a player. They over‑estimate his injury, while he was in the final phase of rehabilitation last Monday. We hoped to have him on the pitch this week.” Stewart’s comments highlighted the club’s disappointment.

Tim Reedijk, journalist for VIDe, reported the update at 17:15 today, noting that the aborted transfer of Couhaib Driouech to Rangers FC sparked considerable bewilderment at PSV. The article was posted under the heading “Vandaag” and captured the technical director’s on‑record remarks.
