Stephen Robinson brands Aberdeen's display at Dundee as unacceptable
Aberdeen manager Stephen Robinson described his side’s 2‑0 loss to Dundee as ‘unacceptable’ in a report published at 20:24 BST on 8 August 2026, noting the defeat ended the Dons’ hopes of extending a perfect start to the new season.
Aberdeen entered the weekend aiming for six wins from six in all competitions, but were outplayed from the first whistle by Steven Pressley’s Dundee side. Aberdeen never found rhythm and were consistently second best throughout the opening half.
Joe Westley opened the scoring before the interval, giving Dundee a comfortable lead. The hosts’ defensive frailties allowed the visitors to dominate possession and create further chances.
Joe Bevan doubled the advantage shortly after the break, sealing a 2‑0 afternoon for the hosts. Aberdeen’s shambolic defensive display invited further pressure, prompting a 4,500‑strong Dundee away crowd to boo the visitors off Dens Park.
At the final whistle, Robinson said, ‘To state the obvious, it’s a disappointment. I thought they ran all over us physically.’ He added that the collective performance was ‘not at the races’ and that the team got what they deserved. Robinson accepted full responsibility, stating, ‘It’s my team, it’s my job to pick them back up again and I take full responsibility for that,’ and noted that no player earned credit and he himself came away with ‘zero credit’.
Robinson highlighted the upcoming Premier Sports Cup tie at Pittodrie next weekend, hoping new signing Mitchy Ntelo will receive international clearance and add pace and strength across the front three. Dundee boss Steven Pressley praised his side’s display, lauding Joe Bevan’s English Premier League physicality, speed and finishing.
