Stefan Effenberg warns Bayern over Musiala illness and transfer gamble

Stefan Effenberg, former Germany midfielder turned t‑online columnist, has turned his expert eye on FC Bayern Munich after the 23‑year‑old offensive player Jamal Musiala disclosed a neurological disorder. Effenberg argues the club now faces a dual challenge: managing Musiala’s health while planning for a possible transfer coup.

Health concerns and public scrutiny

Musiala, the Offensivspieler (offensive player) of FC Bayern, is battling health problems that have placed him under the constant Beobachtung (observation) of a Millionenpublikums (million‑strong audience). Every Startelfeinsatz (starting‑lineup appearance) and substitution in the Bundesliga, Champions League or national team will be watched with held breath.

The young midfielder must cope with a neurologische Dysfunktion (neurological dysfunction) and the mental Belastung (burden) that accompanies it. Effenberg stresses that Bayern must act with Pflicht (duty) and provide transparent information, ideally with a Neurologie (neurology) expert, to answer lingering Fragen (questions) about Spielzeit (playing time) and treatment of epileptic seizures.

Bayern’s response and future planning

Club legend Uli Hoeneß has already announced that Bayern will support Musiala, but Effenberg expects more than words. He says the club should immediately publish details about the player’s condition to avoid speculation that could create Unruhe (unrest) within the squad.

Current medical assessments indicate the disorder is not lebensbedrohlich (life‑threatening) and poses no health risk, unlike the heart‑related incident that sidelined Christian Eriksen at the EM (European Championship) 2021. Bayern’s swift action saw Musiala return to action just three days after a collapse in a preseason match against RB Leipzig.

Vincent Kompany, Bayern’s head coach, now walks a Gratwanderung (tightrope). He must continue to plan with Musiala while also preparing for the possibility of repeated absences, which could force the club to reconsider the player’s role in the Startelf (starting eleven).

Against this backdrop, the €50 million transfer of Ismael Saibari from PSV Eindhoven takes on new relevance. Saibari, who scored 19 goals and provided nine assists in 37 league games and added three goals in five World Cup appearances, was bought as a genuine starter, not a backup like Eric Maxim Choupo‑Moting. Effenberg argues that securing a player of Saibari’s caliber was a prudent move given Musiala’s uncertain availability.
