Stars without contracts: Sancho, Guerreiro and Alaba remain free
The summer transfer window is already closed, but according to Europa Press Sports/GettyImages free agents – i.e., players without a contract – can still be signed. Among the currently clubless players are some well‑known names, foremost Jadon Sancho, Raphael Guerreiro and David Alaba, who are still looking for a club.
Jadon Sancho without a club
The 26‑year‑old winger Jadon Sancho, most recently at Aston Villa, is left without a new club after five years at Manchester United and several unsuccessful loan spells, including returns to BVB and Chelsea. His €85 million move to Old Trafford marked the peak, but since then his career has declined, and so far there are no concrete rumours about a next employer.
Raphael Guerreiro seeks a fresh start
The 32‑year‑old all‑rounder Raphael Guerreiro left the club after three years at FC Bayern Munich. Bayern had signed the 65‑cap Portuguese international free of charge from Borussia Dortmund in 2023, where he had previously spent seven years. Despite ample experience, increasing injuries have limited his options; in the summer AC Milan, Bayer Leverkusen and a possible move to Portugal were mentioned, but so far everything has remained speculative.
David Alaba, the 34‑year‑old Austrian, most recently terminated his contract at Real Madrid. After long spells at FC Bayern and Real Madrid it is unclear whether his next stop will be in Europe. Current clues point to Saudi Arabia, the United States or South America. Alaba won the Champions League four times, the German league title ten times and the Spanish league twice, as well as 117 caps for Austria.
All three stars therefore remain free agents and could be snapped up in the winter window by interested clubs. While Sancho and Guerreiro were already linked with various clubs over the summer, there is still no concrete indication of a new contract for Alaba.
