Standout Kovár: frustration after losing Champions League duel in Germany
Matej Kovár shone on Tuesday evening, but saw PSV lose to RB Leipzig in the Champions League. The Czech goalkeeper describes the evening as frustrating and says that he went home empty‑handed.
Kovár’s reflection on the match
‘It’s one of those games where you think you can get something out of it, but you go home empty‑handed. That’s a frustrating feeling,’ said Kovár during a press moment. He explains that a 1‑0 loss is harder to swallow than a bigger defeat. Ivan Perisic missed a penalty for PSV, but Kovár holds nothing against him and says: ‘That can happen to anyone.’
Kovár emphasizes his role: ‘It’s my job to help the team and keep the balls out of the net. If you have more to do, you’re more focused.’ He adds that he doesn’t care about outsiders: ‘I focus on the team and the staff, I don’t listen to the rest.’
The match was characterised by a single crucial ball through Perisic’s back, after which Kovár kept the ball out of the opposite goal. His strong performance was highlighted by the press, despite the disappointing result for PSV.
