St. Gallen’s steady start in Swiss Cup under Odermatt’s watch

In the opening round of the Swiss Cup, title defender FC St. Gallen secured a 3-0 victory over Thalwil at the 1. Liga Classic ground, while Luzern edged Buochs in front of a watching Marco Odermatt, both matches confirming the clubs’ progress.

St. Gallen’s opening win

The mission of title defence began with a hard piece of work in Thalwil. Leon Frokaj entered at the hour mark, netting the second goal to make it 2-0, and later added the third as the final whistle blew.

Betim Fazliji opened the scoring after a half hour, marking his first goal in almost three years. Kedy Steven Bonsu missed several chances for the underdog, while Mihail Stevanovic’s hard duel went unpunished and his shot was deflected.

Luzern’s comfortable victory

Before Marco Odermatt’s eyes, Luzern launched a symbolic kickoff in Buochs. The match featured brothers Bung Hua and Bung Meng Freimann for Luzern against their sibling Bung Tsai for Buochs.

Pius Dorn struck in the 13th minute and Sandro Wyss doubled the lead in the 33rd. Oscar Kabwit sealed the result in the 78th minute, confirming a win without much glamour.

Sion’s dominant display

In Kerzers, Sion recovered from a brief shock, delivering a strong quarter hour that turned the game into a rout. After a 1-1 equaliser shortly after the break, the team surged to 6-1 by the 64th minute.

Five different Sion scorers contributed, with Josias Lukembila finding the net twice. The performance underscored Sion’s vehemence and the league’s competitive depth.
